Education in Faith

“Learning in Catholic schools seeks out the good in every person. A sense of who I am and how I can be in the world is nurtured in an environment of trust, intellectual inquiry, inspired by the Catholic faith.” (Religious Dimension of the Catholic School, Horizons of Hope)

All staff at St Brendan’s recognise the sacred dimension of teaching and learning across every curriculum area, actively seeking and honouring the presence of God at work within our community. Each year level prepares and leads whole school Masses and Liturgies, celebrated with our parish priest, strengthening the connection between faith, learning, and community.  At St Brendan’s, we are committed to building a Catholic community where members:

  •  pray, learn, celebrate and belong
  •  contribute to and participate in a faith community that celebrates and lives out the ongoing presence of Christ in our world
  • experience the Gospel values that are modelled and promoted
  • are supported to grow, enlightened by faith, animated by love and a future of hope
  • are invited into a rich dialogue where they can explore and develop a deeper relationship with God
  • are active witnesses of their faith within the St Brendan’s Parish  and the wider community
  • develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and responses in faith appropriate to their stage of development.

This commitment to excellence ensures that every learner is supported to flourish – spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally within a community shaped by the life and teachings of Jesus.

The Religious Education program is informed by the Guidelines for Religious Education for Primary Students in the Archdiocese of Melbourne and supported by the To Know, Worship & Love texts. (currently RE Curriculum has been developed 2026). Our curriculum follows a two‑year cycle and is grounded in the principles of the six Catholic Social Teachings. The Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships program is delivered by classroom teachers as part of our holistic approach to student wellbeing and faith formation.

Western Port Parish runs Baptism programs for school aged children throughout the year. Reconciliation is celebrated in Year Three, First Communion is celebrated in Year Four and Confirmation is celebrated in Year Six.
