Inquiry

At St Brendan’s, the learning domains of:

  • Religion

  • The Humanities - History and Geography

  • The Arts

  • Science

  • Digital and Design Technologies

are integrated and taught using a faith-inquiry approach. Our approach encourages all learners to ask and attempt to answer questions about their world from a Catholic viewpoint that is sensitive to the beliefs of others. Depending on ability, students are guided through the inquiry process and are encouraged to take action in a meaningful and purposeful way.

This approach is used because we believe it develops, supports and enhances the vital learning skills, values and dispositions of:

  • Independent research and learning

  • Collaborative learning

  • Critical and creative thinking

  • Self management

  • empathy

  • global citizens

The Ethical, Intercultural, Critical & Creative thinking and Personal & Social capabilities taken from the Victorian Curriculum are central to our faith-based inquiry learning. We believe the values, dispositions and skills obtained from the teaching of these capabilities equip our students to be active citizens of the 21st Century.
